Online
Hello, I’m Carrie, founder of Tenir Counselling. I offer face-to-face counselling for adults in Canterbury, Kent, as well as online counselling across the UK.
I support people experiencing grief, bereavement, anxiety, depression, the impact of difficult or traumatic experiences, and times when life feels heavy, confusing or overwhelming.
A gentle, relational approach to counselling
My approach is warm, gentle and relational. I aim to create a space where you can feel genuinely heard, understood and supported, without pressure to share more than feels comfortable.
You may be coming to counselling with something specific you would like help with, or you may simply know that things do not feel right. Whatever you are carrying, you do not have to hold it alone.
We will work at a pace that feels manageable for you, allowing your story and experiences to unfold naturally and safely.
Who do I work with?
I work with adults aged 18 and over from all backgrounds.
People come to me for support with:
* Grief and bereavement
* Anxiety and persistent worry
* Depression and low mood
* Rape and sexual abuse
* Difficult or painful relationships
* Low self-worth
* Feeling emotionally overwhelmed
* Life changes, loss or uncertainty
* Experiences from the past that continue to affect the present
You do not need to have a diagnosis or know exactly what you want to talk about before beginning counselling.
How can attachment-based counselling help?
Attachment-based counselling explores how your early relationships and life experiences may have shaped the way you see yourself, relate to others and respond to difficult emotions.
You may notice patterns such as withdrawing when relationships feel uncertain, worrying about being rejected, putting other people’s needs before your own, or finding it difficult to trust and feel safe with others.
These responses often developed for understandable reasons. Our work is not about judging or blaming you. It is about gently making sense of what you have experienced and helping you develop greater understanding, choice and emotional security.
At the heart of my work is the relationship we build together. I believe healing can begin when you feel truly seen and met with warmth, steadiness and care.
What happens in counselling sessions?
Counselling gives you time and space to explore what hurts, what feels stuck and what you may be longing for.
You will have my full attention, sensitivity and respect as we begin to make sense of your experiences together. Sessions are shaped around you rather than following a fixed formula.
Some sessions may involve talking through what has happened. At other times, we might pay attention to emotions, bodily responses, relationship patterns or ways of helping you feel calmer and more grounded.

I am trained in:
* Attachment-Based Psychotherapy

For six years, I have volunteered as a counsellor within a bereavement charity. I have also supported adults working within a secondary school environment.
